In the battery world, sodium-ion technology is emerging as a game-changer for sustainability, especially amid lithium supply volatility. A highlight was CATL’s April 2025 unveiling of its “Naxtra” sodium-ion battery line, but August brought concrete progress: mass production ramps for cells with 175 Wh/kg energy density, capable of 500 km EV range and operation across -40°C to +70°C. This positions sodium-ion as a direct LFP competitor, with cycle life exceeding 13,000 charges, as demonstrated in a University of Maryland-Adelaide collaboration reported in July.
